A spotless kitchen, fresh linen on the bed, finished laundry, and a clean home always feel comfortable and welcoming.
For most people, these are simple routines. However, for many NDIS participants, these everyday chores can become overwhelming barriers to independence.
And Martin is one of those individuals. He’s an NDIS participant in Morley, and he also struggles with the same challenges. He has family members to care for, but many times they are unable to be available for him due to work.
He used to feel overly dependent, and it started affecting his confidence.
To help participants like Martin, NDIS introduces NDIS Household Task Support. Ensuring participants’ home remains a place of comfort, not stress.
Yet here’s the catch: not every task is covered in NDIS Household support.
Some supports fall neatly under the NDIS umbrella, while others don’t. It confuses the participants and leads to frustration.
NDIS believes Clarity is everything, and we will help you to understand the support with clarity.
This blog cuts through the clutter. We’ll show you exactly what’s included, what’s excluded, and how registered providers help you make the most of your plan.
What is NDIS Household Task Support (0120)?
NDIS Household Task Support, also known as support item 0120, falls under the Assistance with Daily Life category of the NDIS. This support is designed to help participants manage everyday chores and domestic duties that are difficult or impossible to complete due to disability.
The purpose of the support is to keep your home safe, functional, and comfortable while giving you the freedom to focus on what truly matters.
Whether its preparing a meal, doing the laundry, or keeping spaces clean, this support ensures you don’t have to try to do things alone.
Beyond convenience, the real benefits lie in safety, independence, and dignity.
With the right household support, participants can live with greater confidence, reduce risks of accidents or strain, and maintain a sense of control in their own homes.
Things Covered in NDIS Household Task Support
NDIS Household Task Support is made to take the stress out of daily chores. Here’s what it can do for you:
- Cleaning & Tidying – Vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and wiping surfaces. Keep your home safe, organised, and welcoming.
- Laundry Assistance – Washing, drying, folding, and ironing clothes. No more piles of laundry piling up.
- Meal Preparation & Cooking Support – Chopping ingredients, cooking meals, and cleaning up afterwards. Nutritious meals made simple.
- Dishwashing & Kitchen Cleaning – Keeping dishes washed and kitchen surfaces hygienic.
- Changing Bed Linen – Washing sheets and making beds. Sleep in comfort without lifting a finger.
- Minor Home Maintenance – Small repairs, replacing light bulbs, basic safety tasks.
- Shopping Assistance – Help with grocery shopping or ordering essentials online.
Remember Martin… he is struggling with mobility and fatigue. With our NDIS Household Task Support in Moley, now his home stays clean, meals are prepared for him, laundry is done, and minor repairs are taken care of. Giving him time, energy, and peace of mind to focus on the things he loves.
Things Not Covered in NDIS Household Task Support
While NDIS Household Task Support can take the weight off your shoulders, it doesn’t cover everything. Here’s what you need to know:
- General Living Costs – Rent, mortgage, utility bills, and groceries are your responsibility. Support focuses on helping with tasks, not paying for daily expenses.
- Appliances & Furniture – Buying a washing machine, fridge, oven, or other household items is not funded. The NDIS helps you use your home, not furnish it.
- Major Renovations or Home Modifications – Structural work unrelated to disability access, like extensions or luxury upgrades, is excluded. Only disability-related modifications may be considered separately.
- Luxury / Non-Essential Services – Pool cleaning, deep renovations, or other non-essential services are outside the scope of funding.
- Tasks Participants Can Do Independently – If you can safely complete a task yourself, NDIS will generally not fund support, unless doing it is unsafe, causes fatigue, or presents a risk.
In the case of Martin, if he requests NDIS to pay for his new furniture, NDIS won’t fund it unless it is related to his disability.
